Terms and Conditions for Medicolegal Work
My charging rate is £350 per hour.
Payment will be required before release of the report unless I have, personally, given prior written agreement to the contrary.
Payment will be required irrespective of the outcome of the case in all situations.
In addition to my fee for consultation and preparation of the report, it is sometimes necessary to organise special investigations at additional cost in order to complete the medicolegal report. In general, I will go ahead with simple audiological tests, such as a pure tone audiogram and tympanometry at the time of the consultation, if indicated. In some cases, fibreoptic endoscopic examination of the nose or throat is indicated as part of the examination, and this would normally be done at the same time as the consultation. Other common, but more expensive tests, such as an MRI scan or balance tests will only be carried out after consultation with the Instructing solicitors.
Charge for additional tests, such as audiological tests, X-rays or scans or balance tests will not be included in my fees, and will be invoiced separately by the hospital or the Audiologist involved.
My waiting time for appointments for medicolegal consultation is approximately 4 weeks, and I would usually expect to be able to provide a report within a further 4 weeks if the appropriate medical records are made available.
Please note that I require 8 weeks notice for attendance at Court in order to cancel any clinical activities. This is the time period now requested by all NHS employing authorities.
My charging rate for attendance at Court is £1,500 per half day or part thereof plus travelling expenses.
If the Court case is cancelled within 2 weeks of the expected date, then my fee for attendance at Court will still need to be paid as it would not be possible to reinstate other work within such a short time frame.
