Consultant Adult and Paediatric Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeon
I am a Consultant Adult and Paediatric Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT) Surgeon at the University Hospitals Bristol & Weston NHS trust based at St Michael’s Hospital, Bristol Royal Infirmary, the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children and Southmead Hospital, as well as working at the Spire Bristol Hospital.
I am the President of the section of Otology at the Royal Society of Medicine (2020 -2021) and Past President of the British Society of Otology (2018-2020) .
I was appointed as a Consultant in 1994 and I work with both adults and children. I have developed a specialist practice in complex ear disease and deafness, receiving many tertiary referrals from other Consultants. I have also developed a specialist practice in nose and sinus surgery and all aspects of paediatric ENT. I continue to carry out general ear, nose and throat clinics and surgery as well.
I am the Director and Founder of the West of England Cochlear Implant Programme, and have also previously established multidisciplinary clinics for Tinnitus, Balance disorders, ENT/ Immunology and Allergy, and paediatric Rhinitis.
I have developed very close links with a group of other professionals, such as Hearing Therapists, Voice Therapists, dedicated theatre nurses and very experienced adult and paediatric Anaesthetists, as well as other Consultants, to provide a multi-disciplinary team approach to my patients’ care. I have worked with Fiona Watts, the Hearing Therapist and Clifton Audiology since 1994. All my clinics have audiological support for hearing tests.
I come from a medical family and qualified in medicine from the University of Bristol in 1981. After House jobs in Bristol, I spent a year teaching anatomy at the University of Bristol. I completed my basic surgical training at the Bristol Royal Infirmary and the Bristol Children’s Hospital.
My specialist surgical training in ENT was carried out at University College Hospital and the Middlesex Hospitals, London, as well as Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children.
I had additional sub-specialist training with a Fellowship in Paediatric ENT at Great Ormond Street Hospital, London, a Fellowship in Otology and Cochlear Research at the University of Michigan in the USA, and a Fellowship in Rhinoplasty, Facial Plastic Surgery and Sinus Surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, Texas.
I have been very involved in the training of ENT Surgeons, and I was on the Specialist Advisory Committee for training in Otolaryngology at the Royal College of Surgeons of England from 2012-2018. I was Chairman of the Regional Specialist Training Committee from 2009 – 2013.
I continue to be active in clinical research, particularly related to cochlear implants and I regularly lecture, both nationally, and internationally.
I am a family man and an enthusiastic skier, sailor and mountain walker.

Lorraine Goulder

Lorraine Goulder has worked as Personal assistant and Medical secretary to Mr Robinson for many years and manages his private practice by liaising with medical and hospital staff, GPs, patients, solicitors and insurance companies. She is responsible for managing the practice, organising all the administration, scheduling the operations and billing.

Lorna Strydom has also worked for Mr Robinson for many years as Medicolegal secretary and also provides Medical Secretarial support.
Dr Mark Pyke

Consultant Anaesthetist
Dr Mark Pyke is a very experienced consultant anaesthetist working at Southmead hospital and the Spire Hospital Bristol. He is approaching 20 years as a consultant and still enjoys a wide range of practice including bariatric surgery, ENT ,orthopaedics and emergencies.
He trained at the Middlesex hospital in London and completed his medical training in London, Bristol and New Zealand.
In his spare time he enjoys running around the mountains, surfing and the odd caving trip.
Dr Steven Sale
MB ChB FRCA
Consultant Anaesthetist
Dr Steven Sale qualified from Bristol University in 1993. After a period in general medicine he took up anaesthesia training in the South West of England. Specialist paediatric anaesthetic training included 18 months on Paediatric and neonatal intensive care units and 2 fellowships in Melbourne, Australia and Christchurch, NZ. He was appointed as a paediatric anaesthetic consultant in North Bristol NHS trust in 2006, and moved to the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children in 2008. Research interests include neonatal apnoea and EEG and anaesthesia. He is currently the Clinical Director for Surgical Services at the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.
He also enjoys running, cycling and going caving and climbing with Dr Mark Pyke!
Sister Lisa Cree
Specialist Paediatric nurse
Lisa Cree is a senior sister at the Spire Bristol hospital and the lead for all Paediatric care at the hospital.
She trained in specialist paediatric nursing at Great Ormond Street Hospital, London.
Lisa helps to organize the specialist paediatric operating lists that Mr Robinson carries out and supervises the pre- and post-operative care of the children at the hospital.

Fiona Watts
Audiologist and Hearing Therapist
Fiona Watts is a trained Audiologist, Hearing Therapist and licensed Hearing Aid dispenser and has been working as the primary Audiologist at the Spire Bristol Hospital for over 20 years.
She works very closely with Mr Robinson. Fiona carries out hearing tests and provides specialised hearing therapy advice for Mr Robinson’s patients with hearing loss, tinnitus and balance disorders. In addition she has specialist knowledge on hearing aid fitting.
Fiona began her training as an Audiologist in the Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital, London, qualifying in 1980. She continued her post-graduate education in Houston and Denver (USA).
On returning to the UK Fiona instigated and founded a clinic for patients with Learning Disabilities, offering them a unique and comprehensive diagnostic and rehabilitative service.
Following this, Fiona worked with Mr Philip Robinson to establish the West of England Cochlear implant programme, based at Southmead Hospital in Bristol. In 1995 Fiona was involved with creating and lecturing on the Hearing Therapy Diploma at the University of Bristol.
Mercedes Collins
Audiologist and Hearing therapist
Mercedes is a Clinical Scientist, specialising in Audiological science, who works closely with Mr Robinson.
Mercedes has a BSc degree in Psychology from Cardiff University, graduating in 2009 and then went on to study an MSc in Neurosensory Sciences specialising in Audiology. Her clinical training was at the Great Western Hospital Swindon.
She has particular expertise in the support and rehabilitation of patients with Tinnitus and Balance problems providing compassionate and caring help. She supports Mr Robinson by carrying out hearing tests for both adults and children.
Marianne McEnnery
Audiologist
Marianne McEnnery, BAA, MPPM, Certificate in Audiology (RHad), is a very experienced Audiologist who assists Mr Robinson by carrying out hearing tests on his patients.
She has worked in both the NHS and private practice for many years. She trained at St Michaels Hospital in Bristol, qualifying in 2000. For many years she worked as a senior audiologist for North Bristol Trust. Together with an ENT consultant she set up the Bone Anchored Hearing aid program for the West of England. She was part of the young adult team seeing patients transferring from the paediatric audiology service to the adult service. She has extensive experience in fitting and assessing patient’s suitability to digital hearing aids within the NHS.
Marianne has worked in private practice since 2002 seeing both adults and children referred to her by ENT consultants for hearing assessments as well as adults referred for tinnitus retraining therapy.
Jonathan Doyle
Audiological Scientist
Jonathan works closely with Mr Robinson to perform detailed hearing and balance tests which can provide the basis for a diagnosis. He first studied for his degree in neuroscience at the University of Manchester, before taking on further study in audiology at University College London. Upon completion of his master’s degree Jonathan began cultivating expertise with cutting edge hearing and balance technology as a practitioner on Harley Street, London. Since then he has worked alongside charity Help Musicians UK to give musicians nationwide access to top quality hearing protection and conservation advice - clients include the Royal Opera House, Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Red Bull Studios, and bands The Who, The Spice Girls, & Massive Attack. He continues to provide specialist audiological services to patients here in Bristol, and is also adept at the bespoke fitting of hearing aids from all major manufacturers.
